Tips & Tricks: Keep Your Grasshopper Definitions Clean with Insert Relay

Keeping Grasshopper definitions organized often requires adding Relays to improve wire management and readability. Traditionally, Relays could only be added after a connection had already been created.

Rhino Beta introduces a small but powerful improvement to this workflow. While dragging a wire between components, simply press the ALT key to automatically insert a Relay along the connection path. The wire remains active, allowing you to continue routing and connecting components without breaking your workflow.

This feature is particularly useful when working with larger definitions, where wire organization becomes increasingly important. By placing Relays as you create connections, you can maintain a cleaner canvas and reduce the need for later cleanup.

Although it is a small addition, this shortcut makes working in Grasshopper feel more fluid and efficient, helping you organize definitions as you build them rather than after the fact.

See Insert Relay in action and discover how this simple shortcut can improve the organization and readability of your Grasshopper definitions.
